After posting a sixth place finish at the ARCA Race in Kentucky, Hawkins was off to Southern National Raceway Park for his USAR Pro Cup Race. Hawkins, who currently its 5th in the South Division Standings, qualified 10th for the Crane Cams 250.
"We were decent," says Hawkins, "We just weren't super fast."
His car seemed pretty good in the race though, but that's when bad luck struck. On lap 170, Hawkins was up to the 2nd position when he tangled with Mark McFarland.
"Either I spun out or he touched me," says Hawkins, "It was too close to call and everyone I asked said something different."
With just 80 laps remaining, Hawkins was then forced to settle for a 15th place finish.
"I was pretty disappointed with 15th," says Hawkins, "Because I thought we had a better car. I don't know if we would have stayed in 2nd, but we had at least a top five car."
Hawkins' spin on lap 170 was actually his second of the day.
"The whole race just didn't go well," says Hawkins, "We spun twice and it was just a bad day."
Hawkins is testing Nashville this week with his ARCA car, but then gets a much-needed weekend off.
"It's nice to have a weekend off," says Hawkins, "After Kentucky and then the Pro Cup Race, it was long week."
Next up for Hawkins is a USAR Race August 2nd at Hickory Motor Speedway.
"We ran there last year," says Hawkins, "I think we finished 11th or 12th, so not bad. I'm just a bigger fan of the larger tracks, but Hickory definitely isn't a bad place to race."
