Matt Hawkins Has Trouble at Peach State Speedway
Hawkins World Crown Run Cut Short
Matt Hawkins nearly won the World Crown 200 in 2007, but his 2008 version of the same race didn’t quite have the same outcome. After suffering a setback during the race, Hawkins dropped out early and was credited with a finish of 34th.
“I noticed a problem when we were coming around 30 laps that the brake pedal was real soft,” said Hawkins. “I hoped it was just because it was cold. It would start the race, but it basically wasn’t that good. I pretty much had no brakes 30 laps into it. And it started vibrating really bad and then the rotor exploded pretty much.
“We came from 14th to third in like 30 laps. And we ran everybody out on half the straightaway before I lost all the brakes. So I think we had a real good shot at it. We went by [eventual race winner Russell] Fleeman and passed everybody that ran up front. It seems like the last month we’ve had a winning car and just had bad stuff happen.”

Hawkins will return to action at the 41st Annual Snowball Derby in Pensacola, Florida.
